The day after…

So yesterday Salisbury got into the swing of civic pride and hosted our majesty Queen Elizabeth II for a royal afternoon. Well some of Salisbury did for it seems as in my case the majority of Salisbury went about their normal working day. In days gone past the whole of Salisbury would have come to a stand still; schools would have turned out, shops closed and offices paused for the hour or two of the visit. Unfortunatly most in my case had to carry on working, in my case in a theatre fixing people!. What we all would have given for a few hours off to say hello and join the few who managed to attend. The pictures posted on Facebook etc show a grand affair with Salisbury showing off it’s best and I hope her majesty enjoyed her visit!

The one thing I must say having just walked into town along the royal route was just how clean and tidy the road and pavements are; such a shame it takes a royal visit to achieve it!! Or am I just being slightly bitterabout being unableto attend?

Rest and relaxation

Sometimes the world needs to just stop.

Obviously not in the literal sense but at times we all need a day to just unwind, relax and rest. For me today was one such day. It’s half-term so it means that I am revealed of daddy day-care duties allowing me to enjoy a lazy morning of getting my hair cut, catching up on a few errands and finally frequenting my local Starbucks with a good book and in this case my little brother. The later was great as to sit down and chat with my little brother as it is always great to catch up with what is happening in his world is always a pleasure.

The act of just chilling out and stepping out of the normal run of things is so refreshing. Just now and again we need to take time out and enjoy life for what it is and feel the benefit of just stopping!

Blogs

It has to be said that writing a weekly blog has been proving hard to do; just a quick look at the lack of blogging on my part is proof of that. To be honest I just have not felt inspired to do so of late.

What I have been doing is reading. Bible, blogs and books. I call them my three B’s for obvious reasons.

Bible

Bible; a.k.a. The Word of God!. I get my daily dose via YouVersion on my android phone which has been great. A great free app which if you have any kind of smart phone is worth the time and effort to get to know. I’m really enjoying the reading the bible in a year plan. Just generally it’s great to just spend time with God via his word. Why don’t you get on board too?

Blogs

Well I thought as I was talking about starting up a blog reading a few might be of help. Two that I have really got on with are John’s Blog over at ransomedheart.com and Pete Wilson via withoutwax.tv. Both are just short and sweet and yet they get me thinking which is a great way to go!

Books

Well as I love to read it’s no surprise that I have been getting into a few books! I have just finished Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin. Nearly 1000 pages of great prose. A story that is complex as it is great. Without spoiling it for anyone it has the feeling of Lord of the Rings but a little grittier. Book two of the series is already on the Kindle awaiting me! But before I get there I am re-reading The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien. I say re-reading but to be honest I can not say I have read it. I have vague recollections of reading it and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy when I was twelve; but I can not remember one page of it! I subscribe to SciFi Now magazine and contained within is a great literary section with a #bookclub (hashtag due to it being run via twitter!) and the book of choice is The Hobbit. Therefore I have loaded it up on my trusty Kindle and I have to say I am enjoying it; being as I am 25% through it in twenty-four hours!

Well that just about sums up my ramblings for this week. Until next time.

Hello world!

Well hello world thanks for stopping by. It’s the beginning of new year, 2012 in fact. As such I have decided I need to get my blog skills working again and this time stick to it.

Now I am not talking about blogging each and every day but these are the ‘rules’ I want to work by:

  • Blog at least once a week; about anything and everything! (so I guess this counts as week one!)
  • On finishing a book, TV show and movie give it a review.
  • Add at least one photo from my vast collection that I seem to have on my phone/camera that sit idly by.

Well that’s about it really; so here’s looking to the new year and new challenges… Game on!!!
